How to care for your Zelkova
What to look for across the season
What to look for across the season
Summer
The Zelkova will be at their happiest in the sunniest spot available.
A windowsill, as long as it's not north-facing, is ideal.
If you have outdoor space, you even can put them outside in the summer months - you might find they thrive!
Winter
In winter, give them the most sun you can, and if you've put them outside make sure to bring them in.
Some Zelkovamay drop leaves in the colder months to conserve energy - as long as you've followed the correct light and watering regime and your plant is pest-free, don't panic!
What The Plant Needs
What The Plant Needs
Position
Ideally, place your Zelkovaon a sunny windowsill which gets at least six hours of sunshine a day - south-facing is ideal!
Watering
Your Zelkova will only need watering when their compost is dry throughout.
In summer, this could be as often as every ten days, in winter it could be as little as once every couple of months.
A good way to tell is to check the soil through the drainage holes at the bottom of the pot, or to see whether the soil is coming away from the pot edges. If it's dry, give it a good soak!
Feeding
A low-nutrient fertiliser especially for Zelkova will help your plant to grow.
Only apply 3 to 4 times between March - October.
Diseases & Pests
Houseplant pests are a common cause of plant issues, particularly in the warmer months.
It's a good idea to check Zelkova every now and again to be on the look out for small insects.
Mealybugs are a particular problem for Zelkova so be sure to look out for small, white, woolly insects!
